Our culture in Risk Management and Compliance is all about thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo and striving to be best-in-class.As a Lead Credit Officer - Vice President within the Wholesale Credit Risk team, you will be based in Tokyo, supporting the Japan Wholesale Credit Risk team. You will be at the forefront of executing transactions across vanilla and structured loans, acquisition & leveraged finance loans, derivatives, liquidity and cash management products. You will be working closely with our business partners from various sectors including Global Investment Banking, Global Corporate Banking as well as Global Markets and Global Payments amongst others. You will also be working closely with other stakeholders including Legal and Compliance in managing the portfolios and transactions . Your role will be pivotal in promoting credit analytics including risk rating determination, industry assessment with a key focus on due diligence, structuring, documentation, and approval of transactions. You will also be responsible for the ongoing credit monitoring and review work for all client facilities, providing you with a diverse and dynamic work environment.
Job responsibilities
- Be responsible for ongoing supervision and management of an assigned portfolio of corporate and/or institutional clients across a range of industries
- Identify the key risk factors associated with clients, transactions, and industry sub-sectors across an assigned portfolio, and develop and articulate a dynamic, forward-looking risk assessment of client companies, transactions, competitive threats, industry and other factors
- Lead and/or participate in client due diligence by way of attending client, bank and other meetings to develop a better understanding of client companies, management teams, and industry sectors, and using financial models to incorporate the impact of forward-looking risk assessment on key value drivers, ultimately developing and recommending appropriate credit structures relative to risk assessment
- Apply corporate finance and accounting expertise to develop appropriate financing structures and prepare and review credit approval materials, ensuring all credit risk policies are followed
- Review and negotiate legal documentation to ensure terms are appropriate and consistent with credit approval
- Ensure risk ratings are accurate and reflect a current forward-looking view of the client, while providing early identification and proactive management of deteriorating credits and other problem situations
- Interact closely with transaction stakeholders including client coverage and product bankers, credit executives and legal counsel
- Make sound credit recommendations and own the credit approval decision, while balancing a commercial and solution-driven mindset with a sound risk and controls attitude
- Assist in training and developing analysts, and work closely with analysts and our middle office and data teams to ensure accuracy of credit system data
Required qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Strong analytical and credit skills/judgment, covering both qualitative and quantitative aspects
- Strong understanding of products across loans, derivatives and liquidity and cash management products as well as related documentation
- Established team player with project management skills and ability to take end-to-end ownership of work/projects
- Ability to take an active role in identifying key issues and concerns relating to clients, their industries and transaction structures
- Ability to demonstrate good time management and clarity in thinking when dealing with multiple work streams in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to foster relationships and confidently interact with origination teams and other internal stakeholders
- At least 6 years' experience in roles with relevant skills for this position
Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel with an ability to navigate through financial models, as well as other Microsoft programs (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Undergraduate degree or post graduate qualifications in accounting, business, finance, or a quantitative related discipline
- Proficiency in written and verbal communication in both Japanese and English
