- Structural Forensic Engineer
Description
Arcon Forensic Engineers is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer specializing in forensic investigations with a strong focus on insurance claims and litigation support. In this role, you will investigate structural failures and property damage, determine cause and origin, and deliver defensible expert opinions used in insurance adjustments, dispute resolution, and legal proceedings.
This position is ideal for an engineer who combines technical expertise with strong written communication skills and the ability to present findings clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct forensic investigations related to insurance claims, including structural damage from fire, water, impact, weather, and construction deficiencies
- Perform detailed site inspections and document findings for use in claims evaluation and legal proceedings
- Analyze structural systems to determine cause, origin, and extent of damage or failure
- Prepare clear, concise, and defensible expert reports for insurers, adjusters, and legal counsel
- Review policy scopes, engineering standards, and construction documents in the context of claims
- Provide expert opinion and, when required, participate in mediations, examinations, and court proceedings
- Collaborate with insurance adjusters, lawyers, contractors, and other consultants
- Assist in resolving disputed claims through scientific based technical analysis and professional opinion
- Ensure all work complies with the Ontario Building Code (OBC) and all applicable standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario (preferred) or ability to obtain licence
- Minimum 3–5 years of structural engineering experience; forensic or insurance-related work strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of building systems, construction methods, and failure mechanisms
- Demonstrated experience writing technical reports
- Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills
- Ability to present complex findings clearly to clients, adjusters, and legal professionals
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for inspections
Preferred Qualifications
- Direct experience supporting insurance claims, expert witness work, or litigation
- Familiarity with claims processes and dispute resolution
- Experience providing testimony, affidavits, or participating in mediations/appraisals
- Knowledge of building envelope failures and material performance issues
