- Mechanical Engineer IV
Description
Principle Areas of Responsibility: HVAC - in developing process flow diagrams, and sequences of operations; selection and layout of mechanical equipment and associated piping systems; and developing mechanical construction and equipment specifications, test and inspection plans, and system design descriptions. Perform hands-on CAD using Microstation and/or AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit platforms -Perform heating and cooling load calculations with industry software (Trane Trace, HAP etc.). Communicate with equipment vendors to determine requirements for applying products. Perform field verification and take-offs of existing systems for renovation projects. Coordinate with other disciplines (fire protection, architectural, structural, and Electrical etc.) for HVAC details. Understand work planning and manage design process to the available hours and schedule. Generate calculations, design analyses, construction drawings, and specifications. Design experience should include the following:
- Mechanical wet and dry piping systems (all systems).
- Heating and chilled water hydronic piping systems, natural gas piping systems, domestic water and waste water piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, compressed air systems, and mechanical system controls, etc.
- Piping layout design
- Facilities Layout
- Plumbing
- Knowledge of Federal requirements for life cycle cost analyses of energy consuming systems and building envelope alternatives
- Built-up AHUs, Chillers, VAV’s, HVAC, Process Exhaust
- DOE, DOD and Nuclear experience is a plus
Requirements
Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Master’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.
Requires progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering (HVAC). 8 years’ experience or higher. Ability to demonstrate competency in design of common HVAC systems and equipment, including both air and hydronic equipment as well as building controls.
Ability to demonstrate extensive knowledge of codes and standards, including ICC, ASHRAE, ASME, IBC and NFPA.
Ability to demonstrate competency in leading internal teams in production of design packages including HVAC and plumbing.
Professional Engineer strongly preferred.
Must be familiar with plumbing system design including working knowledge of common plumbing codes.
Possess working knowledge of computers and software such as AutoCAD and /or Microstation, Microsoft Office Suite and software used for specific technical applications within the department.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

This position may require the ability to obtain a government clearance. This position may require reviews and test for absence of any illegal drugs along with a background investigation by the Federal government in order to obtain an access authorization prior to employment, and may require subsequent reinvestigations may be required.
