Description
The Volpe Center is seeking to fill General Engineer positions with strong data analytics backgrounds to serve as technical leads across multi-disciplinary project portfolios. These positions will oversee and execute complex measurement, modeling, and analytical studies supporting diverse sponsor initiatives. Successful candidates will apply advanced data science, statistical modeling, and core engineering principles to evaluate transportation systems, fuel burn, emissions, noise, or air quality. enjoy applying their expertise in the service of others and resolving real-world transportation problems. The ideal candidate is a versatile technical leader who seamlessly blends a strong engineering foundation with advanced data science and analytical skills. They bring demonstrated experience in data modeling, measurement, and statistical analysis, ideally applied to transportation domains such as emissions, fuel burn, air quality, noise, or vibration. A collaborative team player, the candidate excels at managing diverse project portfolios and adapting their quantitative expertise across varying sponsor needs.
Duties
As a General Engineer, you will:
- Performs and oversees expert engineering analyses and thoroughly evaluates the various alternatives for meeting the objectives of the assignment.
- Coordinates and directs the work of other engineers who are assigned to accomplish portions of broad tasks.
- Plans, designs, and implements qualitative and quantitative analyses to objectively address complex needs for projects.
- Participates in building and maintaining effective teams independently and in conjunction with the Division Chief/project leader, through support to recruitment, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Prepares progress reports, published technical reports or chapters of reports, graphical communications, peer reviewed papers, and delivers presentations to Volpe Center management, sponsor representatives, and representatives of other agencies or bodies.

Requirements
To meet the minimum qualifications for this position, you must (1) meet the Education Requirement for the series, (2) provide a copy of transcripts for verification, AND (3) meet the specialized experience requirements.
To qualify for the GS-14, you must have at least one year of experience equal or equivalent to the GS-13, it must include:
- Experience applying advanced engineering principles, quantitative data analytics, and modeling techniques to design, execute, and deliver results for multi-source measurement and analysis projects.
- Experience as a technical lead, working with multidisciplinary teams to manage, analyze, and present data-intensive engineering data across multiple projects and sponsors.
