Description
We are seeking an experienced and licensed Civil Professional Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team. In this role, you will provide civil and structural engineering expertise in support of power utility projects, including substations, transmission lines, distribution infrastructure, and associated site development. You will collaborate closely with electrical engineers, project managers, and utility clients to deliver technically sound, code-compliant designs on schedule and within budget.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
Civil & Structural Design
- Develop and review civil engineering design packages for electric utility projects, including substations, switching stations, transmission structures, and distribution facilities
- Perform site civil design including grading, drainage, stormwater management, erosion control, paving, and utility coordination
- Design foundations for substation equipment, transmission structures, and large power transformers
- Conduct geotechnical review, coordinate with geotechnical subconsultants, and apply soil investigation findings to foundation design
- Prepare and review structural calculations for steel structures, concrete pads, retaining walls, and equipment foundations
Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
- Identify and manage civil/environmental permitting requirements
- Coordinate with local jurisdictions, state agencies, and utility regulatory bodies during permitting and project approval phases
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and standards (ASCE, ACI, AISC, NESC, NERC, NEC, and local requirements)
Project Delivery
- Prepare and QA/QC engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports for 30%, 60%, 90%, and IFC deliverable milestones
- Support construction activities through RFI responses, submittals review, site visits, and field engineering
- Collaborate with electrical, protection & controls, and project management teams in an integrated project environment
- Manage or contribute to multiple concurrent projects across various phases of development
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a civil engineering subject matter expert in client meetings, project workshops, and technical presentations
- Build and maintain strong client relationships with investor-owned utilities, municipal utilities, cooperatives, and independent power producers
- Assist with proposal development, scope definition, and civil engineering cost estimating
Mentorship & Technical Leadership
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior civil engineers and EITs
- Participate in development and continuous improvement of civil engineering standards, templates, and design guidelines
- Contribute to the firm's technical communities of practice and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives
