Description

Phillips 66 is currently accepting applications for an Engineer - Renewable Pretreatment and Refinery Chemical Treatment Specialist position within the Crude Processing and Midstream Group of the Business Unit Support organization at the Phillips 66 Research Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. The selected candidate will be part of a dynamic research and support team. This position will engineer the future through renewables pre-treatment while optimizing the present with refinery process and water chemicals.

Responsibilities May Include
  • Participating in hazard reviews, cause-mapping investigations, safety audits, job safety analysis, preventative maintenance, and compliance to corporate safety policies.
  • Conducting research to develop and improve renewable feedstock pretreatment processes (e.g. process efficiency, yields, uptime, and optimization)
  • Designing experimental plans and developing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for conducting experiments.
  • Evaluating data for quality and analyzing with relevant statistical (e.g., Design of Experiments) and data visualization tools.
  • Providing recommendations to stakeholders. Identifying milestones and managing progress using a staged approach.
  • Conducting internal and external literature, patent, whitesheet and vendor proposal evaluations to remain updated on the technology landscape and identifying areas of potential research and/or technology evaluations in renewable feedstock pretreatment process and solid waste management.
  • Developing collaborative relationships with technical support, engineering, and operations groups. Addressing requests to troubleshoot problems.
  • Building technical expertise in new areas and sharing knowledge across the organization
  • Participating in the activities of refining industry technical societies and other organizations to leverage industry knowledge and experience.
  • Developing and supporting vendor alliances related to pretreatment technology.

Position Requirements

Basic/Required:
  • Basic/Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other technical fields
  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills
  • Proficiency in electronic systems including word processing and spreadsheets with the ability to quickly learn in-house software tools
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Focused attention to detail and strong organizational skillsets
  • Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and integrate solutions
  • Ability to make sound, data-driven conclusions
  • Knowledge of intellectual property methods and management

Preferred:
  • Doctoral degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or other technical fields
  • 5 or more years of experience in refining or refinery support
  • 5 or more years of experience with refinery and wastewater chemical treatment solutions
  • 5 or more years of experience in a research laboratory
  • Familiarity with mixers, filtration, centrifuges, bleaching agents, and analysis methods for vegetable oils
  • Understanding process operating parameters that impact the Pretreatment Unit equipment's ability to maintain superior performance and minimize downtime.
  • Experience with developing, reporting, and monitoring Pretreatment equipment KPI's,
  • Experience with capital project FEL process
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including detailed documentation of lab results and procedures
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills

It's only 18 miles to the Kansas border with Wichita and Kansas City well within driving distance.
