Basic Purpose
Works with a wide range of engineering and field functional groups within NV Energy to lead the creation and maintenance efforts of complex and highly technical material, installation, and construction standards and specifications. Works closely with various stakeholders to develop and contribute technical expertise in the design and construction activities.
The functional area of expertise as a subject matter expert will be assigned - transmission line, substation, distribution, or apparatus.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develops and maintains material, installation, and construction standards and specifications.
Creates, revises, and publishes T&D Standards documentation and data with consistent and adequate detail
Evaluates new technology, materials, and work methods using engineering principles for appropriateness to the T&D system
Identifies and engages stakeholders to lead working group committee meetings, supports standard update proposals, identifies impacts, provides analysis, and develops reports
Supports inquiries and requests for clarifications on standards information
Provides technical support for the procurement of major equipment and materials
Mentors, develops, and performs technical reviews of the work of other engineers on the team
Conducts cost and safety analysis, and utilizes regulations and industry codes and standards as a basis for decisions
Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with internal customers, vendors, and suppliers.
Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Education and Work Experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college/university
Eight (8) years of industry experience with PE license
Ten (10) years of industry experience as a practicing engineer with no PE license
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
Electric utility T&D material, design, and/or construction standards and specifications development preferred
Theoretical and practical knowledge and excellence in transmission line, substation, or distribution engineering principals
Familiarity with appliable codes and standards such as the NESC, NEC, and IEEE
Performing field and factory inspections preferred
Demonstrated skills such as:
Managing multiple complex and unique tasks to completion
Effective oral and written communication
Leadership, coordination, and team building
Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet, graphical design software, and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands General office environment. No special physical demands required. Limited travel will be required. Engineers assigned to apparatus will require more significant travel.
