About the role
In this key role, the Blade Engineer will provide blade and composites expertise to a wide range of activities associated with the safe, efficient, and reliable operations of bp Wind Energy assets. The primary focus being to increase the safety and reliability of the operating wind farms through continuous improvement, quality initiatives, risk management, and asset optimization.

The location preference for this role is located at our main Houston office; however, we are flexible in where you are home based.

You will be accountable for:

  • Handle the day-to-day workings of the onshore wind fleet’s blade inspection and repair program for ~1000 turbines
  • Lead RCAs for major blade related failures and quality incidents
  • Provide on-site blade related technical support where needed (approx. 15-25% travel)
  • Act as the account/relationship manager for all blade related vendors (drone inspection provider, blade repair vendors, external blade SMEs, etc.)
  • Drive quality assurance and quality control into the blade repair vendor’s contracts and overall performance throughout the repair season
  • Liaise with various partners and leadership to effectively communicate and handle blade related challenges and risks
  • Provide blade related technical guidance into the development of future wind projects
  • Provide domain expertise to special projects including blade recycling initiatives, deployment of innovative technologies, etc.


About you
A bachelor's degree (or higher) in an engineering field from an accredited college or university is required. Experience matters! You must have a minimum of 5 years' experience working with wind turbine blades and composite structures AND at least 8 years working within the wind industry.

It's important to have:

  • Demonstrated technical achievements in wind power blade design, manufacturing, quality, repair, and field operations
  • Ability to work with complex technical, operational, compliance, and safety-related issues and ensure that sites are running safely and efficiently
  • Ability to work with diverse teams in both office and field operation environments and ability to actively engage with business unit leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English

Having blade repair technician and OEM blade design (GE, Vestas) experience is advantageous to the role. A commercial attitude and a strategic mentality, with industry knowledge and foresight is helpful in the role too. It's also good to have a strong network and ability to build and maintain relationships within the industry. It's desirable to have a master's degree or PE license.
