The Village of Lisle’s Public Works Department is seeking a Public Works Person to join the Village team!
The Public Works Person position is under the general supervision of a Public Works Foreperson. The position performs operation, maintenance, and repair activities for the Village’s infrastructure. This position performs tasks within the operational areas of streets, water supply, sanitary and storm sewer systems, street lights, forestry, brush, leaf pick up, and in response to emergency overtime situations, including snow and ice control.
Requirements
Principal Responsibilities
Repairs and maintains roads and right-of-ways; repairs pavement; restores parkway landscapes; seals concrete; repairs stone shoulders, lls potholes, etc. Sweeps Village streets. Stripes pavement.
Picks up debris collected in the adopt-a-road program; cleans catch basins; picks up debris from Village properties; hauls debris to proper dumpsites. Hauls and stacks rock salt, gravel and snow.
Maintains and repairs sanitary sewer mains and services; repairs manholes; unclogs back-ups in sewer mains; degreases mains; ushes mains as part of a regular maintenance program.
Maintains and repairs storm sewer systems; ushes sewers; repairs pipes; repairs manholes, ared ends and other structures; creates sewer televising lists.
Maintains and repairs water system; repairs hydrants, b-boxes, meters and valves; ushes mains, repairs breaks; repairs and maintains rate control stations, wells and pump stations.
Collects brush and leaves, trims trees; repairs mailboxes, removes trees, etc.
Removes snow and ice from Village roads and right-of-ways; installs and maintains snow and ice removal equipment; calibrates salt spreaders.
Locates underground utilities.
Cleans and maintains department shop and equipment.
Completes special projects as assigned.
Responds to service requests, call outs and emergency situations; patrols streets during storms for potential ooding hazards.
Operates a variety of trucks and other equipment; operates machinery during central business district sweeps.
Assists with streetlight maintenance and repair; maintains materials; inspects streetlights.
May perform electrical, plumbing or carpentry building maintenance or perform grounds maintenance and landscaping functions.
May inspect re alarm and sprinkler systems and re extinguishers in various buildings.
May fabricate, install and repair street signs; may install ags, banners and holiday decorations.
May install, repair and replace parking meters. Maintains availability on call to respond to emergency situations.
Adheres to Village-wide and departmental safety policies and procedures.
Other Duties as assigned.
Physical Demands
Regularly communicating, traveling from place to place, handling objects, and reaching with hands and arms.
Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Specic vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
This position requires the ability to occasionally transport office products and supplies that weigh up to 50 pounds and may occasionally involve object and materials up to 100 pounds with assistance; as well as operate office machinery.
Tasks involve the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling moderately heavy objects and materials, up to fty pounds.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to perform a variety of physical and mental skills including but not limited to standing or sitting for extended periods of time, reading and writing, preparing and presenting material in a formal setting, performing complex mathematical computations, making sound decisions and using good judgment and demonstrating intellectual and communication capabilities.
Ability to work under potentially dangerous and uncomfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors such as noise and temperature extremes, wetness, smoke, dust, chemicals, machinery or electrical currents can cause discomfort and where there is a risk of injury.
Qualications & Experience
High school diploma required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Position requires possession of a valid Illinois Class A and Class B Commercial Driver's License with Air Brake and Tanker endorsements. Candidates will be considered for the position if they are willing to obtain a CDL during employment. Post-offer candidates should be prepared to take a physical evaluation, including a drug screening, and undergo a thorough background investigation.
Compensation This position is FLSA non-exempt with an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, IMRF pension, vacation time, paid holidays and sick days.
Hiring rate for this position is $27.03.
