weElevateIT is seeking a Senior Automation Engineer to support a federal defense audit readiness engagement focused on workflow automation, human-in-the-loop processing, audit evidence packaging, exception routing, and operational process improvement. The role involves designing, building, testing, and supporting robotic process automation and workflow automation solutions using UiPath or comparable platforms to reduce manual effort and improve audit evidence consistency. The ideal candidate is hands-on and strategic, capable of collaborating across business, audit, data, and technical teams in a fast-paced federal delivery environment.
What you'll do:
Design, build, test, and support RPA and workflow automation solutions using UiPath or comparable platforms.
Develop human-in-the-loop workflows for review, remediation routing, exception handling, approval checkpoints, and audit evidence processing.
Build automation workflows that integrate with Databricks or similar platforms, dashboards, trackers, evidence repositories, and operational reporting tools.
Design exception tracking, escalation workflows, approval routing, notification logic, and audit log capture for remediation activities.
Partner with Solution Architects, data engineers, Program Managers, and audit, accounting, and operations teams to translate process requirements into automation designs.
Develop process maps, automation design documents, test scripts, UAT materials, and runbooks; troubleshoot automation defects, workflow failures, data handoff issues, and UX problems.
Support sprint execution, dry-run testing, operational readiness reviews, training, and go-live preparation; recommend strategic automation improvements to reduce manual effort, strengthen control consistency, and improve audit readiness.
Requirements
Required:
U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC), including a favorable federal background investigation. Ability to obtain a Secret clearance is preferred for potential future scope changes.

Minimum 7 years of experience in robotic process automation, workflow automation, intelligent automation, business process automation, systems automation, or a related technical delivery discipline.
Hands-on experience designing, building, testing, and supporting automation workflows.
Experience with UiPath strongly preferred; experience with comparable robotic process automation or workflow automation platforms is acceptable.
Experience developing process maps, workflow diagrams, automation design documents, test plans, runbooks, or user acceptance testing materials.
Ability to collaborate with business users, auditors, data engineers, analysts, and program leaders to understand process requirements and design effective automation solutions.
Strong problem-solving skills, technical curiosity, and creativity in improving manual or fragmented workflows.
Ability to operate in a fast-paced delivery environment with multiple stakeholders, tight timelines, and go-live milestones.
Preferred:
Experience supporting federal, Department of Defense, government contracting, audit readiness, compliance, financial management, or other regulated environments.
UiPath certification or demonstrated hands-on UiPath development experience.
Experience with human-in-the-loop workflows, approval routing, exception processing, task queues, document handling, notifications, or workflow orchestration.
Experience integrating automation workflows with data platforms, dashboards, structured trackers, document repositories, or APIs.
Familiarity with Databricks, Qlik, SharePoint, Microsoft Office, Power Automate, Python, SQL, or APIs.
