We are seeking a highly skilled R&D Electromechanical Prototype Fabrication Engineer/Tech to join our advanced motor/generator development team in our VC backed, equity benefit available, start up. This role focuses on rapid iterative prototyping, precision fabrication, and hands-on testing of novel electric machine architectures. You will work directly with our senior engineer and inventors to FEA design, build, assemble, instrument, and refine cutting-edge homopolar and radial-flux generator prototypes. This is a hands-on, fabrication-heavy role ideal for someone who excels at creating and translating experimental designs into physical reality quickly, safely, and accurately.
If you love solving hard engineering problems, working with your hands, and contributing to next-generation energy technology—and you value honesty, reliability, and collaboration—this is the place for you.
Please don't apply unless you have a background in motors and generators, you can safely operate machining tools, and you are very skilled in COMSOL electrical/magnetic FEA and CAM/CNC. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively. No ego. No drama. Rock solid integrity and strong work ethic are mandatory.
Duties:
Key Responsibilities
Fabricate electromechanical components using mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, bandsaws, and CNC/multi-axis mills, hand tools, etc, including developing safety protocols. Utilize COMSOL FEA simulation on mechanical/ electric and magnetic components in generators and motors. Create detailed CAD (Computer-Aided Design) models and drawings using software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion, AutoCAD. Assemble novel generator/motor prototypes (rotors, stators, coils, magnetic assemblies, structural components). Fabrication of machine parts, jigs, fixtures, coil winders, alignment rigs, test stands and magnetic assembly fixtures. Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, Oscilloscope, depth gauges, etc. Iterative R&D & Testing
Execute rapid build–test–improve cycles for prototype electric machines. Install sensors (strain gauges, thermocouples, encoders, current probes, etc.) for test rigs. Run mechanical/electrical performance tests and record results. Provide feedback to engineering on manufacturability, tolerance issues, and design improvements. Electromechanical Support
Assist in coil winding, coil potting, assembly balancing, magnet handling, and rotor/stator alignment. Help develop safe handling procedures for high-power permanent magnets and all machines. Prepare test fixtures for torque, back-EMF, resistivity, inductance, and mechanical stress testing. Safety & Shop Management
Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized prototype lab. Follow all safety procedures for machining, electrical testing, and magnet handling. Track consumables, materials, and lab inventory. Contribute to continuous safety improvements. sourcing and ordering parts and materials Simulation & Engineering Support
Assist engineers with reviewing CAD models, drawings, tolerances, and assembly sequence planning. Familiarity with COMSOL Multiphysics or similar FEA tools is a plus (not required). Provide practical feedback to help refine designs for manufacturability, performance, and robustness. Culture & Conduct
Work respectfully and collaboratively with a small, high-output team. Demonstrate absolute honesty, reliability, and professionalism. Maintain confidentiality and protect proprietary information at all times. - Stay up-to-date with industry codes, standards, and best practices related to mechanical design and safety protocols.
