SBH Health System, a Level II Trauma Center is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Trauma, Acute Care Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care surgeon to join our growing Trauma/ACS/SICU program.
This is an outstanding opportunity to join a busy, well-established community trauma service with a supportive multidisciplinary environment and strong institutional commitment to high-quality trauma and critical care. The successful candidate will participate in the full spectrum of trauma, emergency general surgery, and surgical ICU care, working alongside a collegial team of trauma surgeons, APPs, residents and critical care staff.
Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive clinical care for trauma, emergency general surgery, and critically ill surgical patients (average 5-6 calls/month and 1-2 week daily ACS/Trauma floor coverage)
- Participate in Trauma/ACS call coverage with a collaborative, team-based model.
- Provide attending coverage in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and lead daily multidisciplinary ICU rounds
- Provide coverage of general surgery clinics
- Engage in hospital quality improvement, trauma performance initiatives, and outreach education.
- Collaborate closely with emergency medicine, anesthesia, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and other specialty teams to ensure seamless trauma care.
- Support ongoing development of trauma and acute care protocols and clinical pathways.
- Opportunities for teaching residents, students, APPs, and nursing staff. The hospital has an ACGME approved general surgery residency program. It is also the teaching hospital for the CUNY School of Medicine.
Qualifications
- M.D. or D.O. degree.
- Board-certified or board-eligible in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care (ABS).
- Eligible for medical licensure in the State of New York
- Prior experience in trauma, emergency general surgery, or surgical critical care strongly preferred.
- Excellent clinical judgment, procedural proficiency, and teamwork skills are essential.

SBH Health System is a Level II Trauma Center with a dedicated Trauma/Acute Care Surgery service providing 24/7 coverage.
Annual trauma volume of approximately 1100-1300 admissions and 5000 activations, with a broad mix of blunt and penetrating injuries (15-25%).
Well-established Surgical ICU staffed by a multidisciplinary team including experienced critical care nurses, respiratory therapists, and APPs.
