Description
Responsible for detailed analysis, plans, studies, and documentation in support of planning and designing for the Denton Municipal Electric (DME) electric system expansion, modification, operations, and maintenance to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of electric power.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

DUTIES
- Lead, oversee, and train assigned staff, as directed.
- Lead and perform functions including, but not limited to, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify areas of system and business needs, assist with overseeing Division resources, review and approve field changes and redlines to engineering drawings, propose practical solution, and assist with implementation of project plans and business decisions, design, plan, and manage projects that supply or improve service to customers or DME facilities, prepare and provide detailed analyses, plans, studies, appropriate structural and electrical calculations, and documentation to support the expansion, modification, and maintenance planning and design electrical systems changes.
- Use computer-assisted engineering and design software as well as equipment to perform assignments, as appropriate.
- Assist with root cause analysis of equipment failures or system disturbances.
- Stay up to date and research technical advancements and innovations; provide recommendations and information, as appropriate.
- Attend and represent DME at internal and external stakeholder meetings; participate in special projects and initiatives.
- Represent Division during the Development Review process including, but not limited to, reviewing plans and specifications related to electrical facilities and/or provision of electrical service and assisting with implementing codes, rules, and regulations for customer installations and projects.
- Develop, prepare, and maintain documentation and reports including, but not limited to, design, planning studies, project proposals, specifications, customer plan review, electrical reviews, equipment selections, standards, procedures, agenda items, special reports for internal and external stakeholders that may include Development Review Committee, Public Utilities Board, Planning & Zoning Commission, and City Council, as needed.
- Prepare documentation, reviews, reconciliation, and other information to support accounting processes required of the Electric Engineering Department, as needed.
TRANSMISSION
- Support transmission systems from 69kV to 345kV to enhance the utility transmission infrastructure including, but not limited to, capital projects, systems upgrades, evaluating system performance under normal and contingency conditions, supporting interconnection studies for new generation, load, or transmission facilities, providing support during construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities, conducting site visits to assess existing infrastructure and support troubleshooting and supporting grid modernization efforts including integration of renewable energy, battery storage, and advanced protection schemes.
- Perform project management for capital improvement plan projects including, but not limited to, overseeing project from initiation to completion, developing the project scope, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, identifying, and providing project justifications for inclusion in the capital improvement plan and participating in division budget preparation and administration and work plan implementation.
- Perform design reviews of transmission line and substation project drawings to ensure DME standard requirements are meet.
- Oversee and review load flow, short-circuit, and stability studies to support system expansion and reliability.
- Participate in the ERCOT Working Groups as required by ERCOT to ensure DME compliance including but not limited to Steady State Working Group, System
- Protection Working Group, Dynamics Working Group, Voltage Profile Working Group, and Network Data Support Working Group.
- Prepare and maintain transmission analytical software databases; use data to analyze and evaluate system components performance, identify, and validate projects for deficiencies resolution, and plan for future needs.
- Ensure compliance with Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT), Federal, State, and Local electrical, safety, and regulatory codes and City of Denton policies, procedures, and standards; participate in Texas
- Reliability Entity (TRE) audits and implement corrective actions, as appropriate.
- Perform electric easement encroachment analysis for DME.

- Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
- Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching.
- Lifting: Lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds).
- Environment: Works in an office setting and occasionally outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, humidity, and inclement weather; occasionally requires irregular and/or prolonged hours.
- Travel: Travel to City of Denton buildings and professional meetings as required.
- Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position. Must be able to work overtime, holidays, and weekends, as needed. Must be available to on-call and assist with electric system emergencies.

Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET) college or university in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field; and,
- Six (6) years’ experience in electrical engineering, or related field,

- Any combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
