As Senior Process Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to the water process engineering team regarding process issues, unit process selection and timely design reviews input on numerous capital and maintenance projects to mitigate service delivery risk. You will also monitor, develop, plan, and construct water treatment and water infrastructure for the City. Primary duties include:
- Advise the Water Treatment Division on process operations, process improvements, and optimization strategies for the treatment facilities while ensuring safety, efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Provide expert process inputs and comprehensive reviews throughout the lifecycle of cross disciplinary capital projects, including commissioning new facilities and upgrades to existing facilities.
- Conduct site investigations and monitor processes to address operational issues, risks, and process upsets. Identify engineering solutions and create actionable technical and design basis memoranda.
- Assess new technology, prioritize improvements, develop and justify budget allocations, and implement system upgrades and improvements.
- Provide technical and developmental guidance to staff as they manage the treatment process, projects, and activities.
- Monitor guidelines, standards, and regulations for water treatment facilities to ensure robust, secure, and cost-effective infrastructure operations in compliance with regulations.
- Stay apprised of emerging technological developments, regulatory issues, and environmental issues.
- Foster collaboration and clear communication across multiple disciplines.
Requirements
Qualifications
- A degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Civil Engineering and at least 6 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - Experience in plant process design and managing the engineering and construction of water treatment infrastructure projects is essential.
- Experience with current regulations for water treatment, with a strong technical experience in design and selection of complex process equipment and commissioning, is also required.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) and access to a personal vehicle for business use is required.
- A post graduate degree is considered an asset.
