POSITION SUMMARY
The CNC machining Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, improving, and supporting CNC machining processes to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production. This role bridges engineering design with hands-on shop floor operations—overseeing CNC programming, tooling, fixturing, process documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Create, optimize, and maintain CNC programs (G-code) using CAD/CAM software.
- Develop machining processes for new and existing parts, including sequence planning, feeds/speeds, and toolpath strategies.
- Generate setup sheets, work instructions, and process documentation for machinists.
- Design or specify custom fixtures, jigs, and workholding solutions that ensure repeatability and precision.
- Select cutting tools and optimize tool life, cycle time, and machining efficiency.
- Collaborate with tooling vendors on new technologies or process enhancements.
- Ensure machining processes meet engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and quality specifications.
- Work closely with quality engineers on inspections, capability studies, and first article processes (FAI).
- Maintain compliance with internal procedures, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Lead initiatives to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and lower manufacturing costs.
- Implement lean manufacturing methods such as 5S, waste reduction, and workflow optimization.
- Evaluate and integrate automation, advanced tooling, and new machining technologies.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), prototyping, and design-for-manufacturability (DFM).
- Work closely with engineering, production, supply chain, and quality teams to ensure smooth process flow.
- Assist in developing manufacturing plans, timelines, and resource requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 37 years of hands-on CNC machining or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience with multi-axis CNC machines (3-, 4-, or 5-axis) preferred.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidCAM, GibbsCAM, NX, etc.).
- Strong understanding of machining principles, cutting tool technology, and material behavior.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and inspection documentation.
- Familiarity with SPC, lean manufacturing, and process control methods.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Attention to detail and a focus on precision and efficiency.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment.
- Must be able to support the Baker culture of high-performance, results orientation, and a focus on teamwork.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
On-site role with regular interaction on the production floor.
Requires hands-on involvement with CNC machines, tooling, and parts.
May require occasional overtime to support production schedules or urgent jobs.
TRAVEL
This position will require travel up to 5% of the time.
POSITION TYPE
This is a full-time, salaried-exempt position.
