Description
Job Responsibilities- Operate, diagnose, and perform repairs and adjustments on transmitters, translators, satellite systems, microwave links, and associated electronic equipment used in television production and broadcasting.
- Interpret broadcast system designs and demonstrate effective installation techniques.
- Support fellow RF Engineers with complex equipment issues, site installations, diagnostics, and repairs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across a wide range of broadcast equipment.
- Operate and perform minor repairs and adjustments on high-power VHF/UHF television transmitters.
- Operate and maintain low-power VHF/UHF television translators.
- Install and integrate new equipment at transmitter and translator sites for television broadcasting.
- Provide clear and timely status updates, communicate issues effectively, and offer actionable suggestions.
- Identify inefficiencies in system integration and recommend improvements.
- Collaborate with on-site technical teams to resolve outstanding punch list items.
- Work closely with Engineering Managers to offer recommendations on installation standards, technologies, staffing, and project execution.
- Adhere to established work schedules, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Travel extensively throughout the state up to 50% of the time including trips of 3-5 hours one way and occasional overnight stays.
- Perform other duties as assigned and deemed appropriate.
Qualifications
- Preferred background in engineering maintenance, particularly with VHF/UHF transmission systems, microwave links, and satellite reception technologies.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex, unexpected technical issues.
- Proficient in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Skilled in interpreting CAD drawings, blueprints, and other technical schematics.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and task management.
- Solid technical foundation in broadcast audio/video systems, IT networking, and signal transmission theory.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills & must be able to communicate effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
- Ability to work in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Ability to function in a team environment and to work as an individual contributor.
- Ability to work established schedule and other hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays. Be on call on a rotating schedule.
- Valid driver license and clean driving record as determined by the Company. Driving record will be checked.
- Able to travel throughout the state 1-3 times per week. May require an overnight stay.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to climb ladders up to 24' tall
- Ability to crawl, stoop, bend, lift overhead, and walk to reach equipment and areas for evaluation, repair, and adjustment.
- Must be able to work for extended periods of time in a confined area.
- Read, hear and speak clearly.
- Ability to communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Must be able to read and interpret instructions, schematics, and service manuals.
- Ability to drive/operate a vehicle in a safe manner.
- Ability to lift, carry, and walk with equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in all kinds of weather across rugged terrains and at high altitudes.
- Manual dexterity to manipulate computers, general office equipment, including telephone and tools.
