Position Title: Project Engineer
About the Position
Were seeking a Project Engineer to provide critical technical expertise to support the successful delivery of various heavy civil infrastructure projects. This position is responsible for ensuring engineering design and construction activities are completed in compliance with project, federal and state regulations, and aligned with industry best practices. You'll provide technical review, design oversight, and field engineering support to resolve complex engineering issues, while coordinating across multidisciplinary teams, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
This is a full-time, long-term, on-site position located in Sacramento, CA.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and provide technical oversight of engineering submittals, construction drawings, and specifications for compliance with owner standards and applicable codes.
- Support the resolution of design and construction issues, including field engineering changes, RFIs, and non-conformance reports.
- Coordinate across disciplines (civil, structural, geotechnical, systems, and environmental) to ensure integration of design and construction activities.
- Provide technical input during constructability reviews and value engineering assessments.
- Review plans and specifications for compliance and constructability.
- Support procurement activities and monitor material deliveries.
- Participate in quality assurance and testing procedures.
- Maintain accurate project records and prepare progress reports.
- Attend project meetings and document outcomes.
- Assist in project close-out including punch lists and as-built documentation.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years' progressively responsible engineering experience on major transportation or infrastructure projects, with an emphasis on design review and construction support.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards, construction methods, and project delivery for large-scale transportation or rail projects.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Experience with industry standard project and construction management software (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California, or the ability to take the CA exam (for reciprocity) as soon as practical.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience with high-speed rail, commuter rail, or other complex rail transit projects.
- Experience working on federally and state-funded transportation projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Power BI, Oracle Cloud Analytics, or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
Compensation Details
The salary range listed for this role is $100k-$160k/year ($48-$76/hour). The final salary offered will be based on multiple factors and thoughtfully aligned with each candidates level of experience, breadth of skills, total education achieved, certifications/licenses that have been obtained, geographic location, etc.
