Position Summary
The Manufacturing Technician I supports machining and R&D activities by assisting with material preparation, machine setup, basic inspection, equipment maintenance, and development testing. This role works closely with machinists and engineers to ensure efficient shop operations and timely support of production and development efforts. The position is hands-on, detail-oriented, and designed to grow in responsibility as technical skills develop.
Responsibilities
- Prepare raw materials for machining, including cutting stock to size, deburring, cleaning, labeling, and staging.
- Support machinists with basic machine setup tasks under supervision, including tooling preparation, fixture setup, and part loading and unloading.
- Performa basic part measurements and inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other standard metrology tools.
- Assist with mechanical assembly and disassembly for R&D projects.
- Support setup and teardown of test loops, rigs, and fixtures used in development testing.
- Record test results, observations, and issues per engineering or project lead direction.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting during development activities.
- Organize, maintain, and inventory tooling, cutters, fixtures, and shop consumables.
- Assist with equipment upkeep, including machine cleaning, and coolant check, and basic preventative maintenance tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment in compliance with all safety procedures.
- Assist with general shop and facility improvements such as installing shelving, benches, air lines, and supporting basic mechanical or electrical tasks.
- Support shop layout changes and equipment moves as needed.
- All other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of mechanical or manufacturing assembly or equivalent work.
- Intermediate mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools and shop equipment.
- Ability to read basic drawings, instructions, schematics, and work orders.
- Willingness to learn machining processes, inspection methods, and other shop standards.
- Ability to follow instructions closely and work under supervision.
- Ability to communicate both orally and written.
- Citizenship: U.S. Citizen or qualified U.S. Person in accordance with ALU 22CFR 120.15.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with basic metrology tools such as calipers and micrometers.
- Exposure to CNC or manual machining environments.
Physical Requirements
1. This position is regularly exposed to the following conditions:
- Manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
- While working near moving equipment, mechanical parts and lift trucks; must have the ability to follow safe operating procedures.
- May be exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals.
2. Must have the following physical abilities:
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, stretch, reach, and lift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods at a desk or table as well as machine tools or printers.
