Description
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: An employee in this classification must be able to perform technical and skilled work at the Waste Water Treatment Plant in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, electronic, analog and digital control systems and instrumentation utilizing up to 4800 volts.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Work is performed under the supervision of the Waste Water Treatment Plant division head or his designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervise the work of Waste Water Treatment Plant employees assigned to assist.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following:
Construct and provide field support for WWTP process control systems.
Lead workers in the inspection, installation, service and repair of electrical and mechanical systems, and instrumentation such as switchgear, distribution systems, motors, motor controls, and starters as well as signal, measuring, and control devices such as are used in sewage treatment systems.
Act as crew leader, providing technical work and expertise in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation equipment utilized in sewage treatment systems.
Work in close coordination with computer instrumentation staff and mechanic staff to accomplish necessary work.
Prepare bid specifications and estimate the cost of electrical and instrumentation repair work.
Advise Waste Water Treatment Plant staff on proposed instrumentation repairs and system modifications.
Operate motor vehicles such as hoist truck or other equipment as necessary.
Recommend and carry out preventative maintenance procedures.
Maintain spare parts, stock and order parts as necessary.
Prepare reports, maintain records and review plans, schematics and electrical diagrams.
Recommend when work should be contracted.
Inspect electrical installations for conformance with specifications during construction projects.
Review, develop and recommend electrical and instrument preventative and corrective maintenance programs.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Thorough knowledge of the electrical, mechanical and instrumentation systems of a modern Waste Water Treatment Plant.
Thorough knowledge of standard practices, tools, materials, equipment and troubleshooting procedures employed by a maintenance electrician.
Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade.
Thorough knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electricity, power, light, signal control and communication systems.
Ability to climb and work at moderate heights, to follow oral and written instructions and to lay out, assign and supervise the work of employees assigned to assist.
Ability to order materials and equipment for proposed modification and maintenance work.
Ability to prepare reports and maintain accurate as-built drawings.
Considerable skill in locating and correcting defects in control, communication, power and lighting circuits and systems.
Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with the public and other employees.
Proof of successful completion of at least one Allen Bradley PLC or SLC programming and/or maintenance course (including course numbers CCP 153, CCP 412, CCPS 43 OR CCPS 45).
Ability to lead workers assigned to assist.

Graduation from an accredited high school, GED or equivalent trade school.
o ORIGINAL diploma or official transcripts REQUIRED at time of application.
Possess a Master Electrician license issued by the State of Michigan.
o License REQUIRED with application
Three years of experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance of industrial, electrical, electronic and pneumatic equipment and control systems.
Possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Michigan.
Driving record must meet city’s standards for insurability.
Pay rate: $90,511/year (Flat Rate)
