Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Design Engineer to join our dynamic team in the construction and fabrication industry. This pivotal role requires an individual who excels in both design engineering and project management, ensuring that all projects meet required standards and specifications all while being delivered on time and within budget.
The Lead Design Engineer will oversee the engineering design, coordination, and technical execution of API field-erected storage tank projects from conception through completion. This position provides technical leadership to the design and project engineering teams, collaborating with shop fabrication, field construction, company operations, and project stakeholders to generate innovative and cost-effective solutions. The successful candidate will leverage expertise in structural and mechanical design principles to perform and review detailed design calculations and drawings, and ensure compliance with API standards, client requirements, project objectives, and PALA's high standards for safety and quality.
Your leadership will be crucial in mentoring junior engineers, reviewing and checking engineering deliverables, and maintaining technical excellence across all tank-related projects. As a key point of contact for design engineering, you will actively troubleshoot challenges that arise during fabrication and construction, ensuring practical, code-compliant solutions that support safe and efficient project execution.

Responsibilities
- Utilize advanced engineering software and tools to create 3D models and calculations.
- Develop and review detailed design plans, specifications, and calculations ensuring compliance in accordance with API 650/620.
- Review client specifications and project requirements to ensure design compliance and consistency.
- Collaborate with fabrication, quality, and field operations to ensure designs are practical and constructible.
- Participate in design reviews and support resolution of technical issues during fabrication and construction.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, design templates, and procedures.
- Supervise and mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Maintain organized and accurate engineering documentation for all assigned projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field;
- Minimum 3 years of experience in API 650/620 tank design.
- Strong knowledge of structural design principles and construction methods.
- Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Revit, or similar applications.
- Strong Excel skills for performing engineering calculations and managing data.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively interact with clients and stakeholders.
