Job Title: Learning & Development Data Engineer
Location(s): Raleigh, NC
Workplace: Hybrid
Clearance Required: Must be a Clearable for a US Government Clearance
Position Overview:
As a Learning and Development Data Engineer, you will oversee the design, development, and delivery of training content related to data engineering, MLOps, and coding best practices. You will also ensure materials remain current and aligned with organizational goals, and coordinate with DE instructors to maintain high-quality instruction and consistency across programs.
Additionally, you will work directly with ERI clients, managers, and technical staff to understand business needs, develop technical plans, and deliver data-driven analytical solutions and tools that solve client problems. While supporting commercial clients, the Data Engineer will primarily create and deploy robust, repeatable, and automated data pipelines that will ingest and transform raw data to support various advanced analytics and machine learning models. The resulting pipeline should be developed to be deployed into existing large-scale applications or different data visualization platforms available
Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deliver training content in data engineering, MLOps, and coding best practices.
- Maintain and update existing curriculum materials to ensure technical accuracy, relevance, and alignment with industry standards.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging learning materials.
- Ensure that all content aligns with organizational goals and supports the broader Learning & Development strategy.
- Support Data Engineering (DE) instructors, ensuring consistency in teaching quality, style, and evaluation methods.
- Establish feedback loops and metrics to measure learner engagement, content effectiveness, and skill development outcomes.
- Partner with internal teams to integrate new tools, frameworks, and technologies into course materials.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence within the data engineering and analytics community.
- Maintain awareness of emerging trends in data engineering, MLOps, and AI infrastructure to inform curriculum updates.
- Building and managing data systems, pipelines, models, and solutions
- Contribute insights to the development of the data governance plan
Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and one or more modern data engineering frameworks (e.g., PySpark, dbt, Airflow, Databricks, Snowflake, or Azure Data Factory).
- Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT design, orchestration, and data modeling.
- Familiarity with MLOps principles—CI/CD pipelines for ML, model deployment, monitoring, and governance.
- Knowledge of version control (Git) and modern development workflows.
- Experience using learning management systems (LMS), content authoring tools, or other digital learning platforms is a plus.
Requirements (to be met prior to starting the role)
- Advanced Degree in technical field (M.S., or Ph.D.) with 2-4 years of related work experience OR B.S. in technical field with 3-5 years work experience; equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of or in combination with education requirements
- Continuously learn from client projects and apply relevant insights to improve data engineering training content
- Demonstrated ability to teach foundational programming concepts to diverse learners through interactive instruction, reinforcing understanding of objects, classes, and core coding principles.
- Ability to connect the dots between different projects and understand common technical themes and challenges
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, learner-friendly way.
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with instructors, SMEs, and cross-functional teams.
- Passion for continuous learning, mentorship, and talent development in technical domains.
