Description
Job Summary
Technology Automation Engineers design, develop, document, test, and commission automation systems while balancing development cost, product quality, safety, and timelines. This role operates in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and requires close collaboration with mechanical, electrical, software, and IT teams to solve cross-disciplinary automation challenges.
Automation Engineers focus on automating equipment, manufacturing processes, and business workflows through the effective use of sensors, actuators, control software, robotics, and IT infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis to maintain manufacturing production continuity
Design and develop intuitive human-machine interfaces (HMIs)
Develop database applications for tracking downtime, performance, and operational metrics
Program and debug PLC logic using ladder logic and structured text
Maintain and configure industrial Ethernet networks for automation devices such as robots, PLCs, VFDs, and hydraulic presses
Program and debug industrial robotic systems
Manage and support automation projects involving cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, sustaining, and IT
Support maintenance and production teams in the operation and upkeep of automated equipment
General Skills & Work Environment
Ability to walk and stand for extended periods in a manufacturing environment that may be loud and not climate controlled
Strong sense of urgency with the ability to respond quickly to operational issues
High level of initiative and adaptability
Willingness to learn and apply new technologies
Ability to work effectively under pressure
Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on root cause analysis
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience for senior-level consideration
Preferred Experience
PLC systems and programming (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff)
Robotic systems (Fanuc, KUKA, ABB)
Reading and interpreting electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics
Human-Machine Interface development
Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g., Python, C, C++, JavaScript, C#, Java)
General understanding of web technologies, including APIs, databases, and servers
Experience working independently in a large-scale software or automation environment
Demonstrated technical mentoring and technical documentation skills
Knowledge of industry automation standards
